The Reggae Nation – Art Direction & Book Design by Maria Papaefstathiou

The Reggae Nation is a large-format, limited-edition publication celebrating the worldwide cultural legacy of Bob Marley and the Wailers. I was responsible for the complete visual direction and design of the 432-page volume, developing a rich, vibrant aesthetic that reflects reggae’s global heartbeat and the spirit of the “Reggae Nation.”

The design blends documentary photography, archival material, and custom graphic elements into a cohesive editorial experience. Nearly 300 images from renowned international music photographers were curated and integrated into a layout that balances visual storytelling with clarity and rhythm.

The overall art direction emphasizes color, movement, and cultural identity, creating a contemporary, collectible coffee-table book that encapsulates reggae’s global reach. As co-founder of the International Reggae Poster Contest, I brought a deep understanding of reggae iconography and visual culture to the project, shaping a publication that honors both the music and its worldwide community.
