Sangster International Airport (MBJ) is the leading tourism gateway to the island of Jamaica – one of the world’s most beautiful and desired destinations. MBJ Airports Limited was looking for a new fresh logo to depict the island of Jamaica. I designed the new identity to match the modern brands but also to keep inside the legacy of the island. The new identity makes the MBJ more vibrant, flexible and modern.
The first brief was a logo to depict the environment of the island and the aura of its mountains. In the process we decided to include the mountains within the logo, in a more abstract way. The logo should be vibrant as the island's people are, sing the rhythm of reggae music, reveal the flag of Jamaica...
We refreshed the logo, made it bold and colourful, strongly influenced by the Jamaica's national motto "Out of Many One People". So, the colours depict the population's multi-racial roots, and also the Jamaica's flag colours; the rasta colours of red, green and gold; the blue sea; the pink for the universal love message and the orange for the warmth and happiness of the Jamaican people.
THE NEW LOGO
The front of the business card is based on one of Michael's "Freestylee" Thompson poster. A map of Montego Bay was necessary to be designed to replace the Kingston's one that was on the original poster.
